Crescent of a Full Moon

Grown ups! come
Let's cry for having grown up.

Let's cry for
the loss of childhood
Let's cry for
the death that occurred in us.

Let's cry for
having lost the heaven
As a result of
tasting the fruit of Knowledge

Smiles unsullied by tears
Lives untouched by fears
Golden moments adorned with
Fun and frolic, songs and mirth.

Where are those moments?
Where did they go?

What great bliss we had
during the days of innocence
Where did it go?
The days of prudence and awareness
taught us only evils and sins.

Is knowledge a filth?

A carefree life with ease and peace
We had it once
when we were kids.

A burdened life drenched in sweats
and pains
we have it since
we are grown-ups.

Is ageing a penance?

A divine scent was with us
When we were buds
We spread it everywhere

A rotten stench is with us
now, as blossoms,
we spread it everywhere

Is blossom a curse?

There was a full moon brightness
in our crescent days.
They all die
as years pass by.

Is growth a disease?

Angels , we were
In our childhood!
Devils , we are
In our manhood!

Then , a little
fret of us
turned blood into milk
Now , a little breath of us
turns milk into blood.

Then, we shed down tears
even for worms
when they had troubles.
Now , we amuse ourselves
by human sacrifices
for religious issues.

Then , we searched for
the missed ones in the game
of hide and seek.
Now , we are searching for
ourselves in the game
of life and death.

Then , we were a greeting card
Sent by the almighty God
Now , we are reduced
to the level of the yellow press.

Oh God! Give us
back our innocence
those childhood days !
this will spare you the troubles
of sending us
Holy books and Prophets
to reform us.

Children of Heaven ! Light of the divine!
We didn't learn from you
your radiance and divine essence.
Instead we are teaching you
our darkness and ignorance.

Please forgive us.

Heavenly angels !
We'll hold your fingers
Take us to paradise !
your land of innocence !

This is an adaptation of the poem " Paurnami Pirai " by Kaviko Abdur Rahman
